Game Review – Week 5

Off to the Playoffs!

A battered Crows squad land in Sheffield for the final games of the 2017 regular season.

Week 5 – Conference Games

Saturday 8th July

Manchester Crows 13 – 32 Newcastle Blackhawks

The Crows, once again led by WR-turned-QB James Durham, were the first to jump ahead in this contest after a quick opening drive resulted in a short TD for C Phil Shanahan.  Red-zone stops and defensive shutouts dictated the game for the majority of the first half, until the Blackhawks were able to capitalise on a pair of interceptions to go into half time 6 points up.

The opening blitz of the 2nd half resulted in an injury timeout as LB Rob Connor had to be helped off the field by medical staff.  The proceeding drives, fraught and tense, saw The Crows scrape back another TD, only for it to be nullified by the Newcastle offence to close out the game 13-33.

Manchester Crows 45 – 6 Nottingham Bears

Not since ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson defected to D-Generation X at Wrestlemania XIV has a playing swapping teams rocked the world so.  WR Greg Hollin made his eagerly awaited return to face former team Nottingham Bears on Saturday, and proceeded to solidify The Crows’ playoff standings with an emphatic 3 Touchdown performance.

QB Durham added to his season totals with 2 more TDs to C Shanahan, 1 to the Hungarian Mammoth WR Zalan Toth, and a final score to WR Matt Wilkinson.  Bears QB Gareth Lucyzcyn was under pressure all day, resulting in sacks for Toth and LB Nigel Li, and an INT for Wilkinson.

Takeaways

The Crows extend their streak of non-losing seasons to 3, finishing the 2017 regular season at 8-6-0, and securing a place in the BAFA Playoffs for the 2nd year running.

Though battered and bruised, The Crows are heading to Glasgow August 5th to play for it all!
