Welcome to Meet The Crows Monday – a weekly segment that brings the #CrowNation closer to the team.
Another Monday, another insight into the life of a Crow. Today we speak with the “Mute Brute” Jake Blair to find out more about what he does off the field other than inspiring sonnets and amassing a collection of single gloves.
How long have you been playing Flag Football?
This will be my third season with the Crows.
How did you come to join the Manchester Crows?
I was browsing Reddit and saw a post on the Manchester sub which sounded interesting. I then contacted the team on Facebook because I had a little interest in American football and it sounded pretty interesting and unique.
If you weren’t playing Football, what sport would you be involved in?
I think I’d probably try to start playing baseball, it’s something I’ve always wanted to try and it’s a sport I enjoy watching.
What is your favourite pre-game meal?
I don’t have a pregame meal. I just eat whatever is available for breakfast and go into games hungry for action.
What is your favourite cookie?
My favourite cookies are soft triple chocolate chip or the classic digestive for dunking.
The most underrated Crow is…
The most underrated crow is Nigel. He is always willing to adjust to a different position and seems committed to performing just as well in practice than in games. He also produces some really clutch moments when least expected.
The funniest moment from last season was…
The funniest moment from last season was when Nigel scored an unexpected safety and didn’t seem to know what was going on.
Which team(s) do you look forward to playing against?
I enjoy playing against the Titans the most as it is our local rival and they always make sure the game seems competitive and well fought no matter what the scoreline says.
Which Crow has the worst pre-game routine?
Nick has the worst pregame routine. I’m not exactly sure what he does, but he takes ages to do it and emerges outside covered in tape.
An interesting fact about yourself?
I guess I’ll say I have pretty great general trivia knowledge and have never lost a variety quiz such as trivial pursuit.
My goal for this season is…
My goal for the season is 3 interceptions, 3 sacks and at least one touchdown. If I exceed these numbers I’ll be very happy.
Who is your NFL counterpart?
My NFL counterpart is one of my favourite players of all time, Darren Sproles. Short and unassuming but always focused and ready to surprise.
